CONCERTMASTER AUDITIONS

The San Juan Symphony has announced an audition for the position of Concertmaster. To be considered for the position, applicants must be residents of either Durango, Colorado, or Farmington, New Mexico. The Concertmaster will be expected to lead local strings rehearsals with the music director, in addition to upholding the highest levels of playing while providing leadership for the entire San Juan Symphony. The Concertmaster will also be expected to work closely with the librarian and other string principals to prepare string parts with bowings in a timely manner. Other duties would be outlined in the final contract; the pay scale for Concertmaster has been $700 per concert set. The appointment would begin with a probationary year during the 2019-20 season.
Live auditions (required) will be held during the afternoon of Sunday, May 12th, 2019, at Fort Lewis College in Durango. - Rimsky Korsakov, Scheherazade (concertmaster solo), Movement 2, opening solo before Rehearsal A.
- Rimsky-Korsakov, Scheherazade (concertmaster solo), Movement 3, solo before Rehearsal L through Rehearsal N.
- Strauss, Don Juan, opening through measure 62.
- Mendelssohn, Scherzo from Midsummer Night’s Dream, measure 17 through 99.
- Brahms, Symphony No. 4, Movement 4, measure 33 through 80.
- Mozart Symphony No. 39, Movement 1, opening (Adagio) through measure 142 (end exposition)

SECOND OBOE AUDITIONS
The San Juan Symphony has announced an audition for Second Oboe. The Second Oboe will be expected to uphold the highest levels of playing in the section while contributing to the positive working atmosphere of the San Juan Symphony. Compensation includes $58/service and the possibility of a mileage stipend depending on the distance traveled. Residency in the Four Corners area is highly recommended.
